You Were Never Meant To Be Tamed

I have been reading a book called Lioness Arising by Lisa Bevere, and friends, I had to stop and share this with you because it hit me right where I needed it.

Here is the line that stopped me in my tracks. God does not reveal Himself as limitless in order to limit us. He wants to put His heart within us.

Let that sink in for a second.

My friend Christine says it in a way I have not been able to stop thinking about. God did not save you to tame you.

God is not looking for people who simply act like Christians. He wants us to actually be Christians. And here is something that stopped me cold, the word Christian literally means anointed, to be Christ like. Jesus did not go around just being good for the sake of being good. He went around doing good and releasing all who were oppressed.

So what has He anointed you to do?

I will be honest with you, I am still figuring that out in my own daily life. But I think this word is such a powerful reminder that we were never meant to be tamed. We have a lion inside of us ready to roar, and somewhere along the way, a lot of us learned to make ourselves smaller instead.

We stay quiet when we should speak up. We play it safe when God is asking us to step out. We settle for acting like a Christian instead of actually living out the anointing God has already placed on our lives.

I want to encourage you today to be untamed in preaching and teaching the word of the Lord, however that looks in your own life. And I want to encourage you to actually share the gifts God has given you instead of keeping them tucked away where it feels safer.

Can I tell you why this hits so close to home for me?

Hatteras House sat finished in a drawer for years before I ever released it. I knew God had given me this story to tell. I knew it was part of what He had anointed me to do. But I was scared, and being scared kept me tame for a long time. I was acting like a writer without ever actually stepping into being one.

When I finally stopped playing it safe and let this story out into the world, that was me choosing to be untamed. That was me finally trusting that the gift God gave me was meant to be shared, not hidden.

If you have been sitting on something God has placed on your heart, whether it is writing, speaking, leading, teaching, or something you cannot even fully name yet, I hope this is your reminder today. You have a lion inside of you too. It is time to let it roar.

This same heart of finally being honest instead of staying quiet and safe carries right into Weathering the Storm. Matt and Laura Garrison are still learning to navigate life after Matt's PTSD diagnosis, and they are discovering that healing is not a straight path, it is a daily choice to stop pretending and finally be honest with each other, even when honesty is the harder road. I cannot wait to share more about this release soon.

I would love to hear from you. What gift has God given you that you have been keeping tame instead of sharing? Come tell me on Instagram, I read every message.
